Case study · Cloud modernization on Microsoft Azure

Portal modernization on Azure: 20–40% lower cost, 99.9% availability.

A background screening and verification platform serving enterprise HR and staffing teams moved from rigid on-premises systems to a secure, scalable Azure platform.

The challenge

Legacy infrastructure was costing customers.

On-premises database clusters were expensive and could not scale, and candidates were abandoning slow verification forms.

  • Rising costs. Rigid legacy clusters with no path to elastic scaling.
  • Candidate drop-off. Unresponsive forms on mobile and low-bandwidth connections.
  • No single sign-on. No central identity across the platform.
  • Compliance gaps. Data security and PII protection needed strengthening.
  • Slow change. The legacy stack held back new features.
Approach

Four steps to a modern platform.

  1. 01

    Audit and plan

Mapped the on-premises estate: cost drivers, availability risks, security gaps and dependencies.

  2. 02

    Migrate the data layer

Moved to Azure SQL Managed Instance with zero data loss and minimal downtime.

  3. 03

Rebuild the portal and secure it

Rebuilt the candidate portal on .NET 8 and Blazor, added Azure SSO, and rolled out Microsoft Intune and Vanta.

  4. 04

    Observe and validate

Deployed Datadog across the stack to confirm 99.9% availability and support SLA commitments.
